Off to the Doctor.
by LouBelle inin a couple of hours i'm going to the doctor - an intervention.
i don't want to be a burdon to my mother, she has her own life to lead with her own responsibilities.
i've always been able to take care of everything for myself.

It disturbs me that everyone's jubilant over the billions of deaths and then loot the dead. Is this the one with the police car?

Is this example in the Jeremiah Book Geoffrey Jackson
by konceptual99 inin the jeremiah book this week there was this example used to bash further education.... .
12 a brother now serving at world headquarters was 15 when he was offered a scholarship to a university.
to his teachers dismay, he did not accept that offer, preferring a career as a pioneer.

So we can confirm that one smart kid who turned down education did ok for himself. What about all the other JWs kids who didn't get their education, grew up and are now struggling?

In one congregation, well-meaning adults who wanted to help some youths who had become spiritually weak invited them to gatherings to play popular music together. Though the youths readily complied and enjoyed such sessions, their influence on one another eventually led them to cut their ties with the congregation . (1 Corinthians 15:33; Jude 22, 23) What can help heal the ailing child is, not social gatherings with no spiritual direction, but association that helps him to cultivate a taste for spiritual things.
So THIS is why the WT never had youth groups! And that they'd be too lazy to. Fancy letting kids hang out with each other and enjoy each other's company without some sort of indoctrination!

“I’M LEAVING the truth!” Would a kid really say that? I know kids don't talk like that. I mean, there is contradiction inherent in that statement. To say you are leaving the 'truth' means you still think it's the truth, in which case, why would you leave it if you thought it was the truth?

ambition is not a dirty word
by snare&racket ini can't decide if it is based on jealousy, class or the watchtower.
that shameful cult turned the word ambition into a dirty word.
it made the idea of self reliance and self worth a tainted thing.

My father summed up JW ambition thusly: "If everyone in the world was JW, we'd still be living in caves."

The truth just ain't the same any more.
by Julia Orwell inthis has been the sentiment of a few i know who have been full jws for decades.
they say the love is not there like it used to be, and it's become less personal.. anyone heard similar comments from oldies?.
we know the 'truth' ain't the truth in the first place, but i have a feeling there may be a lot of older ones hanging on just because it's all they've ever known, and it the alternative, that there is no paradise around the corner like they've always been taught us unthinkable..

" Just one more year in the elderly and infirm section of the DC. Just one more year of a less than mediocre life, because the end is so close. Just one more year of sleeping with a man I do not love. Just one more year of back-brakeing labor at night, with no 401K or health insurance. Just one more year of the same routine, day in day out, week after week, year after year. Just one more...."
That's not living, it's existing. I've done it as a JW, as have all of us...you become an automaton, with anything you like deferred for some future time when you can sit down and pet lions and tigers. And for the oldies, they just fade into obscurity, praying for A to come before they die. Of course it never does.

" Me: “I suppose I would feel bad, but shouldn’t we be asking this instead; If the cong. feels so threatened by an Elder that we have to video tape a meeting to protect ourselves how does this Elder still qualify to serve? Doesn’t he then become the wolf in sheep’s clothing?”

There are *good* people out there! Yes -gasp!- in the "world"!!
by Muddy Waters init is still a wonderful discovery and pleasant surprise to continually keep finding that there are some awesomely *good* people out there in the "world"!.
it's such a neat thing, this (slow, yet very rewarding!
) process of making new, non-jw friends.... i recently had my first meal at the home of one of these new wonderful people we've just met and i just must share this!

"And as a non-American can someone explain what's so bad about Barack Obama wanting to improve healthcare provisions in the USA?
And comparing Barack Obama to Osama Bin Laden makes you sound stupid, maybe get some perspective?"
Agreed. Here in Australia we've always had universal health care, and the fact that disadvantaged people can receive help for free IMHO is a sign of a progressive society, the antithesis of the intolerance, violence and fanaticism represented by the late Osama Bin Laden.
I've traveled to countries where the health care is limited to only people with money and there is very little political freedom, and the people are in awe of Australia's care for the disadvantaged/sick/disabled and the US's freedom to say whatever you wanna say. It bugs me that people in the USA think they are living under a fascist regime as soon as someone wants to legislate to help the disadvantaged. My F&MIL live in the US and don't get what people there are complaining about.

" that they are, for the most part, HONEST, hard working people..." I always had this impression of non-JWs, because my entire family are non-JW and are what you've described. It's so good to be able to finally meet these great people, people who will respect your differences rather than expect you to think the same as they do on most topics. The fact you will have many differing opinions and yet still be friends proves what true friendship is!
